My name is Gabi, I work in the field of floral marketing since 1996. Over 1,200 trucks filled with flowers, or more than 50 million flowers, passed through my hands. My work has blossomed my love for this field, and I'm working in it even now.
The Flower Market has shifted spectacularly over the past few years, with flower varieties expanding exponentially each year. I believe that the market has evolved into the diversification of flower assortments. Many more varieties and types of flowers appear each year.
Originally, we imported flowers from the Netherlands which used to be of good quality, but in the last years imports from the Netherlands, although increased in volume, suffered from a qualitative point of view.
Unfortunately, at present, a larger quantity of flowers seems to be the priority of the Dutch farms. This unfortunate fact led to a significant decrease in the quality of the flowers.
From experience I can say that the most sold flower is the rose. When it comes to quality roses, imports from farms in Ecuador and Kenya offer an impressive quality. I consider that roses from Ecuador have only one destination, namely the bouquets of flowers. The bud has an impressive resilience, height and size.
Roses from Ecuador are different from Kenya's roses by the fact that the roses from Kenya can be used both for bouquets and floral arrangements. They have a large and durable bud with an impressive palette of colors. Personally I recommend roses from Kenya and Ecuador for the variety and usefulness offered at an acceptable cost. An advantage of these roses is their resistance, which gives them a much longer life than roses from the Netherlands.
Flower quality is a long-term investment that requires a patience that will be rewarded by customer satisfaction. Eventually customers will learn to make the difference between regular and high quality flowers. The next day they will fly off the shelves. They will understand that quality flowers are worth the price paid.
For event organizers who are tired of semi-wilted flowers that wither and die as soon as celebrations end, quality flowers are extremely important.
Every flower must be respected from the moment it was purchased until the time of sale.
Careful transportation of flowers is essential for maintaining the quality of the flower. A flower must be properly handled and stored in an environment and at a suitable temperature.
Failure to comply with appropriate conditions for the maintenance and transport of flowers may result in a drastic shortening of their lives, flowers having a lifespan of 21 days from the time of harvesting.
That is why I recommend that in the hot days the supplying of flowers should be done in the early morning or in the evening in the cool. The temperature in the flower shop must be kept at 16 degrees.
The use of flower-specific products is recommended. Changing the water daily is extremely important. You must put a drop of chlorine in the water to prevent the bacteria from growing. Flower leaves should never be in the water. Personally, I recommend for flower shops to resupply on Thursday so that you have the freshest flowers for the weekend and monday.
For the best results, besides roses that are annual product, I recommend you seasonal flowers. This way you get superior quality flowers at an affordable price. I do not recommend buying peonies in October or Liliac in August because you will pay an extra seasonal price, and the quality of the flowers will be mediocre.
